The student teacher, Vivian, featured in the Pailliotet research, was constructed as a poorly performing teacher candidate by her professors because she was not imitating accepted models of what they thought a student teacher should look, sound, and act like. White normativity and racism caused Vivian to experience isolation, stereotyping and negative feedback in her teacher preparation program.
