Chinook (snow eater) is a warm dry wind that occurs on the eastern slopes of the Canadian Rockies. This weather phenomenon occurs when warm moist air from the Pacific climbs the mountain peaks and creates warm air when it loses its moisture.
The Limber pines in the Bull Creek Hills of the Highwood River valley have such depth of character, roots deep in the rock, limbs twisting in chinook winds, lightning struck and snow bound. Tenacious sentinels overlooking the valley- now weathered old snags enjoying the view.
It seems Leonardo DiCaprio is unfamiliar with Chinooks. In the recent issue of Vanity Fair, the American actor and film producer discussed witnessing the "terrifying" effects of climate change firsthand while in Alberta filming his new film The Revenant.
