“The Rite of Spring,”
Costume for an Ancestor in scene 2 of the Ballets Russes production of Le Sacre du Printemps 1913. The costume consisted of a full length robe of off white flannelette, painted at neck, elbow, wrist and hem with geometric shapes in yellow, reddish orange, highlighted with magenta. This was worn with a leather belt and white linen boots under cross strapped leather sandals/boots. The scenery and costumes were designed by painter, philosopher and archaeologist Nicholas Roerich (1874-1947).
You can make these ruffles by cutting a spiral out of a big circle of fabric. Sew the short end onto your garment. Trim the long end to accentuate the ruffle. btw, This is a great dress.
