Painted with acrylic on cut paper and with the use of papier-mâché, foam, wire, and wood, these very colorful pieces are handcrafted by Lauren Clay. Her work explodes with an organic flow of paper that pours out of the pieces but then also some with geometric contrast that makes them seem quite futuristic.
Paper Sculptures by Lauren Clay An amazing series of sculptures by Brooklyn-based artist Lauren Clay who recently obtained her MFA in Painting and Printmaking at Virginia Commonwealth University. She creates 3-dimensional sculptures by meticulously layering strips of “papier mâché” and painted paper to produce these intriguing and colorful organic shapes.
Lauren Clay creates these three-dimensional sculptures out of papier-mâché and painted cut paper (among many other things) that go far beyond the limits of paper’s two-dimensionality. The layered strips of paper create repeated patterns of texture that feel organic but I’m sure they were meticulously placed.
