HINDU GODS CHART There are four main sects within Hinduism: 1. Shaivism (in which Shiva is worshipped as the main god); 2. Vaishnavism (in which Vishnu worshipped as the main god); 3. Shaktism (in which the female aspects of god are primarily worshipped); and 4. Smartism (in which six main gods are worshipped: Shiva, Vishnu, Shakti, Ganesh, Murugan and Surya).
Ganesha - The son of Shiva and Parvati, Ganesha has an elephantine countenance with a curved trunk and big ears, and a huge pot-bellied body of a human being. He is the Lord of success and destroyer of evils and obstacles. He is also worshipped as the god of education, knowledge, wisdom and wealth. In fact, Ganesha is one of the five prime Hindu deities (Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva and Durga being the other four) whose idolatry is glorified as the panchayatana puja.

Shiva, O destruidor. Um dos dois deuses mais poderosos do hinduísmo. Apresenta-se de várias formas: o extremado asceta, o matador de demônios envolvido por serpentes e com uma coroa de crânios na cabeça, o senhor da criação a dançar num círculo de fogo ou o símbolo masculino da fertilidade. Mais que os outros deuses é uma mistura de cultos, mitos e deuses que vêem desde a pré-história da Índia. É a representação do Espírito Santo no hinduísmo.
