Alan Alda was born Alphonso Joseph D'Abruzzo in NYC & had a peripatetic childhood as his parents traveled around the US in support of his father's job as a performer in burlesque theaters. His father, Robert Alda, was an actor & singer, & his mother, Joan Browne, a former showgirl. Alda attended Archbishop Stepinac HS in White Plains, NY. In 1956, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Fordham College in the Bronx.
