The Bell Jar - Sylvia Plath. I studied her poetry in high school for my English Literature class. I completely adored it so I insisted on going out and buying this to read. It's dark, but she was such an immensely talented author. ~ I prefer her unabridged journals but the Bell Jar was worthy of reading

Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen. This is the number one for me. I keep it in my nightstand so I can read a night over and over. I have had to replace my DVD of it 3 times now because I truly love how close the book is to the film. The way she writes is perfect for me and I adore finding books that even I can get through in a few days :)

I love all of Kate Morton's novels but this one is my favorite. She writes mystery novels that rely heavily on flashing forward and back in time in the UK. They are all slightly Gothic, painstakingly plotted, and romantic to some degree. I highly recommend them to Anglophiles and mystery/romance lovers everywhere.

The Forgotten Garden Kate Morton (2008) ~ A novel driven by the mystery of why a 4-year-old child is found abandoned on an Australian wharf in 1913. While paying homage to Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden and the Gothic novel, Morton's work explores living with and overcoming loss - of trust, of identity, or of loved ones - and was inspired by Morton's own family history.

Holding anger is a poison. It eats you from inside. We think that hating is a weapon that attacks the person who harmed us. But hatred is a curved blade. And the harm we do we do to ourselves. - from The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom. One of my all-time favorite books. books-worth-reading
"The 5 People You Meet in Heaven" by Mitch Albom. One of my favorite books and movie..... I hope my 5 people blow me away!!!

The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom. on my to read list
Also another amazing book by Mitch Albom
Last week before I took my off, my officemate send me the PDF file of this book. I know Mitch Albom sounds familiar, so I immediately looked for more information about him. Thanks to Wiki, I found out that he was the one who wrote Tuesdays with Morrie, a book I’ve read when I was still in High School. The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom I know that the book will teach a lot of lessons. Basing it on what I’ve read about Tuesdays with Morrie, I know that Albom’s new book will be well written, and it will be a book about life. The Five People You meet in Heaven focused on Eddie, a Circus Maintenance guy who died on an accident. After he dies, he met five people, the blue guy, his Captain, Ruby, his wife, and the Filipina Child, Tala. Each person will teach him five important things, how human beings are connected, sacrifices, forgiveness, the essence of true love, and our purpose here on earth. What I love the book aside from the lessons that it will teach you, some part of it was set here in the Philippines. I love Tala’s character and her importance in Eddie’s life. There were also parts of the book that really shocked me, like when the Captain died. I never see it coming. After I read the part, I immediately went on break just to smoke, it was just too much. The five lessons that Eddie learned while he was on heaven is very important. I’ve realized that there are certain things that we will be things that we will learn as we grow however it is important to know these five things. We have to understand how our faith is intertwined; we have to know that sometimes, what is beneficial for us might be heartbreaking for someone else. We must not be selfish. In life, we also have to learn how to sacrifice and forgive. Love encompasses everything, even death, so it is important that we always show sincerity when we love somebody. Lastly, no matter how tough things can get, sometimes we will get fed up with the things that are happening around us, we must not fret. One way or another, we are beneficial to somebody. The Five People You Meet in Heaven really started my week right. It gave me that boost of positive energy to welcome the week with such optimism and glee.

Middlesex, by Jeffrey Eugenides. my all time favorite book. it's a somewhat difficult read, but once you get into it, it's absolutely amazing.
Jeffrey Eugenides: Middlesex "I was born twice: first, as a baby girl, on a remarkably smogless Detroit day of January 1960; and then again, as a teenage boy, in an emergency room near Petoskey, Michigan, in August of l974. . . My birth certificate lists my name as Calliope Helen Stephanides. My most recent driver’s license...records my first name simply as Cal."

Already have a copy of this book. Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides - It's a Pulitzer Prize winning book and an Oprah book club selection.
MIDDLESEX-Jeffrey Eugenides In the spring of 1974, Calliope Stephanides, a student at a girls' school in Grosse Pointe, finds herself drawn to a chain-smoking, strawberry-blonde classmate with a gift for acting. The passion that furtively develops between them - along with Callie's failure to develop physically - leads Callie to suspect that she is not like other girls. In fact, she is not really a girl at all.

I recommended this to one of my students who was a very reluctant reader, but an avid fisherman. I told him that this was a fishing story that would top all others. This kid read the whole book--the first one he had ever finished in his whole life. He even came back to me for more recommendations.

My all-time favorite book. I read it in high school as an English class assignment and have read it countless times since. In my opinion, Ernest Hemingway's best work.
Mi first Hemingway book. Faster than any other became one of my favorite books and made me hunger about more Hemingway... great reflection about life, just as the ones that only and inmensity of sea can inspire combined with the thoughts of an old, honorable and brave men with still so much to prove to life.
The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway | Pretty sure I read some parts in High School, for the most part it was good. So I wouldn't mind getting it and reading it.
The Old Man and the Sea, Ernest Hemingway. I read this in high school, but I still remember it.
Ernest Hemingway's "The Old Man And the Sea" which was written in Cuba, is a great epic story about an old fisherman named Santiago trying to catch a big marlin by himself to overcome his ill fortune. The book is so well written that readers can actually feel like being next to Santiago at each step of his struggle. This masterpiece is also the last one to come from Hemingway while he was still alive. Not my favorite Hemingway book, but at least it is short.
Ernest Hemingway My first Hemingway book. Very vivid for me. Never forgot the imagery.

Harper Lees To Kill A Mockingbird is timeless! A must read for those who haven't yet . . My favorite book in high school I stole the book and just bought a new one last year for the anniversary of it's being published.
One of my all-time favorite books. I have read this book more than any other - I don't even know how many times I've read it - because it is such a great book and so short. I am sure I'll read it again someday. I love the way Harper Lee wrote, and the era, characters, and story are terrific. Atticus Finch is one of my favorite literary characters.
To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee - I don't care that you read it in middle school AND high school, just reread it, you won't be sorry
To Kill A Mockingbird--This book, penned by Harper Lee, was an eye opener for me when I was in high school. It helped me to REALLY understand what bigotry, at its worst in humanity, was capable of. It is also a book that shows the best of humanity in overcoming our differences and prejudices. If you've never read this book, check it out. It is an amazing book.

Fitzgerald, High School, Dust Jacket, Favorite Book, Time Favorite, Dust Cover
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. A book I am so glad I was forced to read in high school...continues to be an all-time favorite.
This has been my favorite book ever since I was in high school and mesmerized by Fitzgerald's fascinating use of symbolism. Every summer I try to re-read my same copy from high school, using a different color pen each time so I can visually see how the story transforms as I get older.
One of my favorite books of all time. It helps that my beautiful city, Louisville, was an inspiration for Fitzgerald. I am impatiently waiting for the Baz Luhrman directed film to debut featuring the one and only Leonardo DiCaprio this summer.
The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald. Hands down my all time favorite book by my all time favorite author
All Time favorite book! First published in 1925, a novel by the American author F. Scott Fitzgerald.
The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald. Undeniably one of the greatest book jackets of all time.
Read this is high school and hated it. Re-read it at 36 and fell in love with Fitzgerald.
One of my all-time favorite book covers (but not so much the words inside)
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1925. Octavo. Original green cloth, titles to spine gilt and to upper board in blind, top edge trimmed others uncut. With the dust jacket. Housed in a dark green quarter morocco solander box made by The Chelsea Bindery. Foxing to page edges and the first and last gatherings, mild browning to the endpapers but an especially bright copy, tight and square in the slightly chipped dust jacket with a little professional repair. The folds have been internally strengthened and several tears repaired with retouching to the creases and rubbing. A very attractive copy, the brightness of the blue is especially good. First edition, first printing, first state of the text, first issue dust jacket. The copy is the correct first printing.
"Last Night I Dreamt I Went To Manderley Again." So the second Mrs. Maxim de Winter remembered the chilling events that led her down the turning drive past the beeches, white and naked, to the isolated gray stone manse on the windswept Cornish coast.
