Laas Gaal or Laas Geel is a complex of caves and rock shelters in Somaliland. Famous for their rock art, the caves are located not far from Hargeisa, and contain some of the earliest known cave paintings in Africa. Laas Gaal's rock art is estimated to date back to somewhere between 9,000–8,000 and 3,000 BCE
Chauvet Cave Paintings Gallery Discovered on December 18, 1994, it is considered one of the most significant prehistoric art sites. A study published in 2012 supports placing the art in the Aurignacian period, approximately 30,000–32,000 years ago.
