A fine Régence period carved wood and Beauvais tapestry firescreen. The central Beauvais tapestry depicting Vulcan, the God of Fire seated on a plinth surrounded by flowers and parrots, set within an outer carved scrolling wood frame decorated with shells and acanthus leaves. French, c. 1720. Height 110cm, width 83cm Provenance: Palais Galliera auction, 2nd & 3rd June 1970, lot 96 In ancient Roman religion and mythology, Vulcan is the God of Fire. £7,500.00
