I thought this was a really cool experiment that I must do with my students to introduce a weather topic or even the water cycle! - Oh my trendy!

Fill a cup with water and put shaving cream on top to act as a cloud. Explain to students that when clouds get really heavy with water, it starts to rain. Add some blue food coloring drops to the top of the shaving cream and watch it start to rain!

These clouds are super simple to create and offer an up-close look at how clouds collect moisture that turns into rain {or other types of precipitation} and falls to the ground. It also provides a fun opportunity for discussing the different types of clouds.

Weather Unit - perfect for our Cloudy with a chance lapbook and sensory tub!!

To make a raining rainbow fill a clear container with water and cover the top with shaving cream.  Drip food coloring onto the top of the shaving cream.  Then, watch and wait until  the rainbow begins to rain through the cloud of shaving cream. We were so excited when the colors started "raining" down from our cloud of shaving cream!
