I Am Half-Sick of Shadows: A Flavia de Luce Novel by Bradley, Alan null http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BXUFNX0/ref=cm_sw_r_pi_dp_fl6vub1FSMJ06
Quick Book Reviews: "I Am Half-Sick of Shadows" by Alan Bradley is the fourth Flavia de Luce mystery book in the series, and this time it puts our beloved heroine in the spotlight as she investigates a rather dramatic murder which occurred seemingly in plain sight: someone was found strangled with a movie roll on a film set located in the de Luces’ family estate.
I love Flavia... An eleven year old chemist who loves a good murder, Christmas in a threadbare great house in England, and fifties film stars--what's not to love about I Am Half-Sick of Shadows, by Alan Bradley. So far, so good. Hope it's as wonderful as the previous three Flavia de Luce novels!

I Am Half-Sick of Shadows: A Flavia de Luce Novel by Alan Bradley, http://www.amazon.com/dp/0385344015/ref=cm_sw_r_pi_dp_QLQ-rb0Z9NR2Q
I Am Half-Sick of Shadows: A Flavia de Luce Novel -- this is the fourth in a series. An 11-year-old girl in England obsessed with chemistry, derided by her older sisters, solves crimes. Great characters, and even better as an audiobook since Jane Entwistle is a suburb narrator. If you prefer to start from the beginning check out "The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie" -- first in the series.
I am Half-Sick of Shadows by Alan Bradley -Yes, another Flavia de Luce novel (Will her mother return???)

The Hunger Games - Book 1 of Triology by Suzanne Collins. Young adult maybe - but a good read.
The Hunger Games is a young adult novel written by Suzanne Collins. It was originally published on September 14, 2008, by Scholastic. It is the first book of The Hunger Games trilogy. It is written in first person and introduces sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem where the countries of North America once existed. This is where the government, working in a central city called the Capitol, holds power. In the book, the Hunger G...

Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, by Jamie Ford (Book Club Kit). Set in the ethnic neighborhoods of Seattle during World War II and Japanese American internment camps of the era, this debut novel tells the heartwarming story of widower Henry Lee, his father, and his first love Keiko Okabe.
Great book... historical fiction about Japanese American evacuation in Seattle and internment camps in 1942
Set in the ethnic neighborhoods of Seattle during World War II and Japanese American internment camps of the era, this debut novel tells the heartwarming story of widower Henry Lee, his father, and his first love Keiko Okabe.
A lovely story about a Chinese-American boy growing up during WWII, and the Japanese-American girl he loves. Interesting account of Asian against Asian racism as well as the internment camps, with some Seattle jazz thrown in.
Last book of the 2011 Book Club. I LOVED this book!! A beautiful balance of present day and 1940s Seattle during World War II - Henry's memories of his friend Keiko and her "evacuation" to a Japanese internment camp. I just my have to read it again!
Seattle 1986: the personal posessions of thirty seven Japanese families are found in the basement of the Panama hotel where they have lain forgotten by everyone, except Henry. Seattle, 1942: Henry is "scholarshipping" as the only Chinese-American student at his otherwise all-white middle school when he meets Japanese-American Keiko and the two form a close and unlikely friendship. Aptly titled book! Read 4/13

Just finished this book today. Narrated by Death, this book tells the story of a young girl in Nazi Germany. Amazing book
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Trying to make sense of the horrors of World War II, Death relates the story of Liesel -- a young German girl whose book-stealing and story-telling talents help sustain her family and the Jewish man they are hiding, as well as their neighbors. Young Adult | Fiction | Historical.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. An absolutely amazing book. Takes place in Nazi Germany, from the perspective of death and a poor German girl. I highly, highly recommend it.
"The Book Thief" Markus Zusak. Fiction. The book is set in Nazi, Germany. It describes a young girl's relationship with foster parents, the other resident's of their neighborhood, and a Jewish fist-fighter who hides in her home during WWII. New York Bestseller List (2006) for over 230 weeks. One of my favorite books because it is so well-written.
This is an AMAZING book. Sad and beautiful and full of very real characters. This book is a great way to teach adults and kids about the tragedies of war. Also a moving study of friendship and what it really means to be a family. And, like all good books with kids as the main character, it's even funny in places, because kids are funny. I truly loved this book.

Da Vinci Code....one of my favorite books if not the one! Read all Dan Brown's books. Awaiting the new one, due out in May.
Gracias Dan
The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown - This page-turner of a book is a NOVEL and while that is important to remember, this book does illustrate the idea that there is more than one history of the world. There are secrets and suggestions buried in time waiting to be rediscovered and re-examined from fresh perspectives.
The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown. Investigating the murder of a Louvre curator, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon and French cryptologist Sophie Neveu find clues painted into a Da Vinci work, inadvertently uncovering a plot involving the Holy Grail and the secret society known as the Priory of Sion. This book can be found in the fiction section of the DHS Library, F BRO.
The Baking Bookworm re-reads and reviews: The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown. I really enjoyed listening to this e-audiobook. Paul Michael is an amazing narrator and really brought this book to life and made it interesting even though I had read it years before. 4/5 stars

When the first copy of this book arrived on my desk it sat there for weeks. I knew nothing about it, but for some reason I was in no reason to read it and even had a strange inclination not to want to like it. Then I read it. This is one of the most outstanding novels I’ve read in years. It’s atmospheric prose transports you to a remarkable world that is a playground for the mind and the senses. When I finished it, I went right back to page one and read it again. It's that good! -Jamil

Book Club, Stephen King Book, Awesome Book, Time Travel, Reading List, Favorite Books, Dust Cover
Had to buy this for book club. NOT a Stephen King fan....... It is Cinder Block Huge, so I hope I like it!!
11/22/63 by Stephen King is a 2011 novel about time travel, but rather than focusing on ancient history, it is set in the 1960s. An English school teacher is given the power to go back and change the course of history. What would have happened if the JFK murder never took place? Not a huge King fan, but this thriller rocks.
Stephen King writes great time travel fiction (inspired by "Time and Again") Awesome book...not your "normal" Stephen King book....
11/22/63 - A science fiction story about time travel and the assassination of JFK. King actually includes areas of DFW that are known to locals - by far my favorite book to date.
11/22/63 Stephen King's take on time travel and the JFK assassination. Really compelling. I'm not much of a King fan (nothing against him either - just not my cup of tea) but I REALLY enjoyed this and had a hard time putting it down.
I've long been a Stephen King fan but haven't read one of his in a very long time. This book reaffirms for me that he is simply THE master story teller. He is known for horror but this book is really historical fiction / time travel. All 800+ pages are truly gripping and take you places you never expect. I tend to be more of a fan of his older work, but he really nailed it with this one.
11/22/63...one of my favorite books, so far. Could not put it down. Even if you aren't a Stephen King fan...a great read!
