    My parents had one like this. I would burn one side of the bread, turn it around and burn the other side. My mother made me scrape off the burned part and eat it anyway--can't waster good bread. It's surprising that I still like toast!

    if you had the right flick of the wrist you could turn the bread over without touching it

    I was only about 7 to 9 years old at the time and never learned the right flick, I guess. I still wonder why my folks didn't invest in a pop up toaster. They were around at the time.
