PULP FICTION Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield are hitmen with a penchant for philosophical discussions. In this ultra-hip, multi-strand crime movie, their storyline is interwoven with those of their boss, gangster Marsellus Wallace; his actress wife, Mia; struggling boxer Butch Coolidge; master fixer Winston Wolfe and a nervous pair of armed robbers, "Pumpkin" and "Honey Bunny".

Pulp Fiction is a 1994 American black comedy crime film written & directed by Quentin Tarantino, from a story by Tarantino & Roger Avary. The film is known for its eclectic dialogue, ironic mix of humor & violence, nonlinear storyline, & a host of cinematic allusions & pop culture references. The film was nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Picture; Tarantino & Avary won for Best Original Screenplay. It was also awarded the Palme d'Or at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival. A major critical and commercial success, it revitalized the career of its leading man, John Travolta, who received an Academy Award nomination, as did costars Samuel L. Jackson and Uma Thurman. Directed in a highly stylized manner, Pulp Fiction connects the intersecting storylines of Los Angeles mobsters, fringe players, small-time criminals, & a mysterious briefcase. Considerable screen time is devoted to conversations and monologues that reveal the characters' senses of humor and perspectives on life. The film's title refers to the pulp magazines and hardboiled crime novels popular during the mid-20th century, known for their graphic violence & punchy dialogue. Pulp Fiction is self-referential from its opening moments, beginning with a title card that gives two dictionary definitions of "pulp". The plot, as in many of Tarantino's other works, is presented out of chronological sequence. The picture's self-reflexivity, unconventional structure,& extensive use of homage and pastiche have led critics to describe it as a prime example of postmodern film. Considered by some critics a black comedy, the film is also frequently labeled a "neo-noir". Critic Geoffrey O'Brien argues otherwise: "The old-time noir passions, the brooding melancholy and operatic death scenes, would be altogether out of place in the crisp and brightly lit wonderland that Tarantino conjures up. [It is] neither neo-noir nor a parody of noir." Similarly, Nicholas Christopher calls it "more gangland camp than neo-noir," & Foster Hirsch suggests that its "trippy fantasy landscape" characterizes it more definitively than any genre label. Pulp Fiction is viewed as the inspiration for many later movies that adopted various elements of its style. The nature of its development, marketing, and distribution and its consequent profitability had a sweeping effect on the field of independent cinema. Considered a cultural watershed, Pulp Fiction's influence has been felt in several other media, and was judged the greatest film between 1983–2008 by Entertainment Weekly. Pulp Fiction is generally considered by critics to be one of the greatest films of all time. In 2013, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

Enemy at the Gates is unusual in that you cheer for the Russians in this WW2 set film. It is loosely based on real life Vasily Zaytsev, a famous sniper who was used for propaganda much like the Red Baraon in Germany. Would have been better without the romantic interest.

Shutter Island (2010): In this suspenseful film, Leonardo DiCaprio plays U.S. Marshall Teddy Daniels who is assigned to a case investigating the disappearance of a woman who escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane. At one point in the movie, we're introduced to Teddy's wife who you might infer suffers from a severe case of Major Depressive Disorder, Postpartum Onset.
"Shutter Island" (2010) Starring Leonardo DiCaprio **Personal Note: This is probably the only time that I have ever felt that the movie was better than the book. If you have already seen the movie, then do NOT read the book or you will end up being disgusted and throw it against the wall like I did. If you have read the book, then please watch the movie and enjoy.
Shutter Island (2010) - Excellent film. In 1954, U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels is investigating the disappearance of a murderess who escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane and is presumed to be hiding near-by.
Dennis Lehane's book definitely helped clarify lots of things from the movie, and from this pov it might seem #MartinScorsese did a poor job adapting the novel. However the reception and perception of Shutter Island was clearly influenced by the close release of another film starring #LeonardoDiCaprio as well, and with a rather similar subject - Christopher Nolan's "Inception".

Blade Runner (1982) Dir. Ridley Scott. Based on Philip K. Dick's _Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?_, but the title is from William S. Burroughs' novella _Blade Runner (a movie)_, which is itself a story treatment for a potential movie version of the Alan E. Nourse novel _The Bladerunner_ (which was never made into a movie).
Blade Runner (1982) Ridley Scott movie based on Philip Dick short story. A visually stunning film that also asks big questions.
"Blade Runner" (1982) A blend of science fiction and noir detective fiction. Harrison Ford is iconic and possibly best role ever for Rutger Hauer. Ridley Scott's film is probably in top 100 best Sci-Fi movies ever. Hoping that the movie's 2019 does not turn into our reality.
Blade Runner (1982) Ridley Scott's 1982 sci-fi treasure "Blade Runner" has much to answer for, including the look of every futuristic movie to this day! Although rumors abound that a remake is in the offing, we frankly don't know why they even bother. Nothing will even come close to matching this film in which ever iteration you prefer. The production magic, or rather living hell as this case may be, will never be duplicated!
Pinterest doesn't have enough room for me to talk about a film that helped define my love of movies and a nostalgia from my childhood. Blade Runner has geeks salivating over the significance effects, production and art design and one of the best Philip Dick adaptations- sure, all true. However it wasn't well received on initial release and later versions didn't have Ford's (Deckard) v.o. Over 30 years later, sci fi greatness and the complete reason I believe in the world of film.

THE TALENTED MR RIPLEY (1999): It may be creepy as hell, but The Talented Mr. Ripley also happens to be one of the most beautiful depictions of Italy ever captured on film. Set in the 1950s, the movie follows a group of pretty young things (including Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Matt Damon as the titular sociopath) on their luxurious-slash-murderous holiday, from the pristine beaches in Lazio to the opulent hotels in Venice.
The Talented Mr. Ripley is a 1999 American psychological thriller film written for the screen and directed by Anthony Minghella. It is an adaptation of the Patricia Highsmith 1955 novel of the same name, which was previously filmed as Plein Soleil (Purple Noon) in 1960. A great period piece with even better location in Italy. There is a subplot of classic versus modernity told through music. "Jazz ...insolent noise" laments Dickie's father.
