Cristobal Balenciaga, single seam wedding gown, 1967    At the age of 12, Balenciaga began as a seamstress for the Spanish aristocracy. During the in the 1930s with the Spanish civil war, he moved to Paris and influenced the fashion world. The single seam dress above was one of his last pieces before closing his house in 1968. He died in 1972.
