I was looking for good "starters" to ignite discussion in my classroom. Am thinking about creating these and then laminating them and taping them on each student's desk.

Guided Reading Snapshot. This is a wonderful chart for teachers to use to assess students. It could be used at the beginning and the end of a unit to compare student's progress. While it would be time consuming to do individually with each student, it could be very beneficial to learn where students are at before choosing books for the school year.

Instead of "I can't" or "I Don't Know" or "I don't get.." (post by the meeting area for easy reference!)

Need an idea to end the day? The End of the Day Jar has 24 questions to ask students to get them talking about their school day. This helps build community in the classroom. You can call on students to answer the questions or have them talk with a buddy.

One student is selected to be the "Ask Me" person (to help students who need assistance) while the teacher works with small groups-no disruptions for the teacher!!!

Center rotation- love the idea of using real classroom pictures. It would probably be helpful to have photos of what they are to DO at the centers too. MUST do something similar before we all go nuts.
