"The students are asked to choose a simple shape and create a pattern of that shape to trace onto the paper. The students are told to overlap the shapes to create interesting negative shapes. Then they erase the lines where the shapes overlap. After they complete their composition, they add color to the background with colored pencils."

Fill the page with one continuous line, then trace shapes over it and color them in.

Ms Maggie Mo's Australian Aboriginal hand project: spray hand with thinned white or black tempera, student paints dots with sticks. I showed 1988 Nat Geo Aborigine video of Gagadju Aborigines blowing paint from mouths over hands as part of ritual. Awesome video also shows artist making intricate bark painting.
