Textual Evidence bulletin board. The board serves to provide students with ways to cite evidence from a text.
Prove it! Cite evidence to strengthen your point. High school English bulletin board. Don't like the phrasing of "On page ___, it says..." because "it" is missing an antecedent, but still a variety of good ideas. Better than simply repeating "Show, don't tell" because it models for students how to analyze text and provides an example.

Formative Assessment Stoplight
The Doors, Exit Ticket, Self Assessment, Tootsie Rolls, Sticky Note, Self Evaluation, Formations Assessment, Exit Slip, Traffic Lights
Great Blog. This post is about Student self evaluation. It's called an exit ticket. Before a lesson or near the end of the day, you have the Ss explain something to you, maybe the meaning of a word, or to show you an example of a math concept you've been teaching. They can do this in picture or word form. Afterwards, they stick their name on the traffic light, deciding where they think they fit in understanding the concept. You look at it after and decide who needs more help.
ticket out the door - stoplight self-assessment ... formative assessment?? Genius! **make magnets versus sticky notes
Sticky note self assessment
exit slips that allow kids to explain or demonstrate topic just taught on sticky note. Then they place it on correct area- self- evaluate. Can tell pretty quickly who has it and who doesn't- use for strategy groups.
Self Evaluation + Exit Ticket = quick formative assessment

Make an Egg Float in Salt Water An egg sinks to the bottom if you drop it into a glass of ordinary drinking water but what happens if you add salt? The results are very interesting and can teach you some fun facts about density. What you'll need: One egg Water Salt A tall drinking glass Instructions: Pour water into the glass until it is about half full. Stir in lots of salt (about 6 tablespoons). Carefully pour in plain water until the glass is nearly full (be careful to not disturb or mix the salty water with the plain water). Gently lower the egg into the water and watch what happens. What's happening? Salt water is denser than ordinary tap water, the denser the liquid the easier it is for an object to float in it. When you lower the egg into the liquid it drops through the normal tap water until it reaches the salty water, at this point the water is dense enough for the egg to float. If you were careful when you added the tap water to the salt water, they will not have mixed, enabling the egg to amazingly float in the middle of the glass.
