Visually, this is one of the most beautiful films ever made. It was shot in and around the Greek Islands. There are dramatic moments underwater, and the story itself is engaging. But mostly, it leaves you wanting to pack your bags for travel. Unless, of course, you live in Greece!
THE BIG BLUE: Avoid the director's cut - it changed everything I loved about the film. The theatrical release is gorgeous, from the music, to the photography, to the story and the locations. Jean Marc Barr is an otherworldly, innocent, almost childlike creature that seems accidentally human. He is effortlessly the best diver in the world, but it's an honor he neither fights for nor seems to understand what to do with. It's a dreamlike story of love and loss between friends and lovers.
