This is a watercolour on paper by Ellis Rowan(1848-1922).She was a bored Victorian-age wife whose husband suggested she take up painting flowers . She evolved into a naturalist, explorer, artist and author who produced a prodigious collection of botanical artwork. She was also rather good at painting butterflies and moths - these 374 moths in 11 columns are from New Guinea.
