Dorothea Towles Church (7/26/1922 - 7/07/2006) was the first African American high fashion model in Paris, working for Dior, Schiaparelli, and Balmain for over five years. She returned to the US in 1954 and, unable to find modeling work, toured HBCU's presenting fashion shows as fundraisers for AKA. She was featured in the exhibition “Black Style Now,” which opened in New York City following her death. #TodayInBlackHistory
