“I’ve finally recognized my body for what it is: a personality-delivery system, designed expressly to carry my character from place to place, now and in the years to come. It’s like a car, and while I like a red convertible or even a Bentley as well as the next person, what I really need are four tires and an engine.”
I got lost in this quiet study of a woman's life, from youth to old age. Another great work from McDermott.
Songs of Willow Frost: A Novel by Jamie Ford 4 stars This book is about a young Chinese orphan and his eventual re-connection with his mother. It was an enjoyable read but I wasn't very drawn to the character of Willow Frost. It is a sad story of love, loss and longing. 45/2013
"After all those years as a woman hearing not thin enough, not pretty enough, not smart enough, not this enough, not that enough, almost overnight I woke up one morning and thought, I'm enough."
