Athassel Abbey, Golden, Tipperary | Queen Of Pots - Athassel Abbey is probably one of the most impressive ruins.Covering nearly four acres it is the biggest medieval priory in Ireland and was built in the late 12th century. It burnt down in 1447 and the monastery was dissolved in the 1500s.
Athassel Abbey became the final resting place for the de Burgo (aka Burke) family. Today modern graves stand among ancient slabs. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Learn more about this stunning - and rarely visited ruin - by clicking the link in my bio @irelandfamilyvacations and choosing County Tipperary from the interactive map. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Our many thanks to Neil Jackman of @abartaaudioguides for guiding us through this incredible site. #Ireland #funfamilytravel #CountyTipperary #TravelTuesday
