A beautiful lady. This is Selika Lazevski, a 19th century equestrian photographed by Felix Nadar in 1891. She was an écuyère who performed haute école - which means she was an equestrian who rode high school dressage in French circuses in the 19th century. She was photographed by Felix Nadar in 1891. More photos at (and photo credit belongs to) Ministère de la Culture (France) and http://vintageblackglamour....

A haunting 150-year-old photo found in a North Carolina attic shows a young black child named John, barefoot and wearing ragged clothes, perched on a barrel next to another unidentified young boy. In April, the photo was found at a moving sale in Charlotte, accompanied by a document detailing the sale of John for $1,150, not a small sum in 1854.

Harriet Ross Tubman, 1911. In my opinion one the most interesting women in the world, past or present. Its difficult to summarize her bio in 500 characters. She was an adventurer, humanitarian, reformer, spy & hero. The links give an account of her life & accomplishments. I chose this image because it fits her other name, "Moses". http://www.math.buffalo.edu/~sww/0history/hwny-tubman.html, http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/aia/part4/4p1535.html, http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/aia/part4/4p1535.html.
