In the foreground is Oval Island where Diana is buried amongst an arboretum of specimen trees planted by herself and her sons over the years. Oval Island sits in the middle of the Round Oval, a man made, ornamental lake that was added to Pleasure Gardens in 1860.
Althorp house and estate in Northamptonshire is the home of the Spencer family, one of Britain's well-known aristocratic dynasties and family of Princess Diana. The estate encompasses about 13,000 acres. By road it is about 6 miles northwest of the county town of Northampton and about 75 miles northwest of central London. It has been held by the prominent aristocratic Spencer family for more than 500 years, and has been owned by Charles Spencer, 9th Earl Spencer since 1992.
