The Air Force Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service (AFDECS) is granted to Air Force civilian employees that have achieved their required duties for at least one year, resulting in profound Air Force-wide impact to programs as documented by the following: development of improved methods or procedures, initiation of revolutionary ideas, or unprecedented achievements or benefits to the government.
The Air Force Outstanding Civilian Career Service Award Medal is granted to employees of the Air Force that exhibit significant achievements, leadership, unconventional competence, and notable impact upon the Air Force mission throughout the employee's career.
The Air Force Civilian Achievement Award Medal (AFCAAM) is given to particular Air Force civilian personnel for outstanding achievement and meritorious service provided on behalf of the United States Air Force. To achieve this it must be apparent in the service that the employee surpasses the basic service expectations of an individual with similar responsibilities. The AFCAAM may also be awarded while the employee is on temporary assignment or detail.

This medal is generally granted only to officers that hold at least the rank of Major General.
