    Island of Dolls, Mexico

    • Wally Tibbit

This is La Isla de la Munecas” or Island of the Dolls, just south of Mexico City, located within an extensive network of canals. The story goes that a hermit used to live there believing he was haunted by the spirit of a young girl who had drowned in the same canals. He collected broken and mutilated dolls to serve as a shrine to her spirit, hoping it would please her.

La Isla de las Munecas ('Island of the Dolls'), Mexico City. People began leaving dolls on this island after a young girl died here. Sweet idea. Terrifying outcome.

La Isla De Las Munecas, Mexico - Island of the Dolls. It is said to be haunted with doll souls. I think that would be a pretty awesome place to visit (During the daytime though of course!)

Isla de las Munecas It was around 50 years ago that a little girl drowned off a small island hidden deep amongst the canals of Xochimico. The island’s only permanent inhabitant was a recluse named Don Julián Santana Barrera. Soon after the girl’s death Barrera fished an old doll out of the water.

Isla de las Munecas in Mexico Although it is now abandoned at one time it had a single inhabitant. His name was Don Julian Santana Barrera and according to legend, one day a young girl drowned just off shore . At any rate, not long after this, Don Julian found her doll floating in the water. Supposedly as tribute he decorated the entire island with the dolls before mysteriously drowning in the very same canal as the little girl.

La Isla de las Munecas is an island in Mexico where in a creepy swamp south of Mexico City there’s a place that looks like the stuff of nightmares and horror movies. Here, among the scraggily branches and dead trees hang hundreds of old, mangled dolls. - Here's the story: that has TONS of creepy dolls scattered about. Look it up to find out more, it's pretty interesting.

The Island of the Dolls (Isla de las Munecas) sits in the canals south of Mexico City and is the current home of hundreds of terrifying, mutilated dolls. Believe it or not, this is a tourist attraction in Mexico. It was created by a Julián Santana Barrera who has covered every tree in the island with mutilated dolls. Some sources say this was intended to ward off evil spirits, while others imply Santana Barrera was haunted by the ghost of a little girl who had drowned in a canal near the island
