This is a comment from the site: I've been looking into this with hair dressers (for humans). They all recommend using pastel chalks, like what artists use. For light hair, do not wet the chalk, as it will stay longer than intended. But for darker hair, you should wet it. If you do pinterest, search for color hair chalk and you will find a few tutorials. I am actually going out to get some chalk from the a&c store today

????!!!!!!!!! Colour your hair with any colour chalk pastel in 4 easy steps. Wet hair, twist the hair you want colored, color it with the pastel of your choice. Let hair dry and use brush through to remove excess chalk. DONE.

I have blonde hair and did this. It doesn't last long until you take a shower and all of it washes out.

Does it get on your clothes?

For anyone who is willing to do this , DONT. I tried this a while back and my hair was literally a loofa and it stayed like that even after washing it 4 times.

You're supposed to use a deep conditioner after if you have dry brittle hair. I found that Aussies 3 minuet miracle does great when you want to chalk your hair. It makes it soft and the color shows up better
