Common Core has challenged us as educators to really question our teaching. We are challenged to teach with a deep understanding. This is my fourth unit that is deeply researched, thought out, and core based. This unit has a deep focus on shapes 2D and 3D, balancing equations, deeper understanding of word problems, time and lots concrete and representational math mats to aid in their thinking.
Common Core is making us think harder about how we are going to reach all of our students and make them master thinkers. This is a complete unit for math first grade to get you going for the 1st five weeks of school. This unit focuses a lot on number sense and a solid introduction to addition and subtraction.
Math Playground offers a load of manipulatives for math concepts. The manipulatives are organized in topics such as Visual Division, Pattern Blocks, Percentages, and Equivalent Fractions to name but a few.
Your students will solve two digit addition word problems, with three or four addends in each problem. Then the fun begins! Use iPods or iPads with QR reader apps to check to see if the answers are correct. Students will be motivated to use this exciting technology, while practicing their addition computation skills.
CC math= deep thinking, deep discussion, and fun Unit 5 is completely written around the math CC standards. It is the last unit in this series. It covers standards:-1.MD.1 and 2-MeasurementStudents will be measuring in nonstandard units with Goldilocks and the three bears.
