Beth Lesser. From Clarks In Jamaica. Clarks’ desert boots have been a favorite of Jamaica’s gangsters since the 1940s. Rude boys loved them because they were imported, expensive & made your footsteps quiet “They’re so silent when you a walk – cheese bottom dem call it.” The boots became so associated with criminals that people risked being beaten by police for wearing a pair. Musicians influenced by their rude boy peers, they've been referenced in Jamaican dancehall & pop ever since.
