A memoir that reads like a novel, the author weaves so much humor into what would otherwise be a dismal tale, that this book is just fabulous.

I LOVE this book about a young woman from Chile who runs away to California during the gold rush. Beautifully written by Isabelle Allende. I just love female heroines!

This book is in my top ten of favorite books to read. Worth re-reading.
