This home in Santa Cruz, CA was designed based on the architectural tome, A Pattern Language. One of the ideas taken was "a connection to the Earth." "I love a house that coaxes you into the garden..." the owner says. "People like buildings that allow them to transition gently from inside to outside." The couple designed their home with plenty of porches and large shallow steps.

Henry W. Baker House at 233 S. Main St. in Plymouth, MI. Baker (1833-1920) built this Italianate style home in 1875. Baker had moved to this area while still a boy. As a young man, he worked as a photographer, a merchant and a lumberman. At the age of 43, he helped found the Plymouth Iron Windmill Co., which in 1895 became the Daisy Mfg. Co. The company, best known for its BB guns, operated in Plymouth until 1958, when new owners moved it to Arkansas. Baker's descendants lived here until 1943.
