Romans and Phoenicians used to collect sea salt from beaches throughout the Balearic Islands. One of the most important locations today is a natural 3.5 km long beach on the south-east of Mallorca. In the mid-20th century, the Salt Flats of Es Trenc (Las Salinas) were the centre of much activity for salt producers. The salt gathers on the water surface as Flor de Sal (Salt Flower) crystals which contain 16-20 times more magnesium than sea salt, and twice the potassium and calcium.

Roscon de reyes (kings' ring) is a Spanish cake pastry traditionally eaten to celebrate Epiphany. The “rosca de reyes” has an oval shape due to the need to make cakes larger than 30cm across. For decoration, fig fruit, quinces, cherries or dried and candied fruits are used. It is traditionally eaten on January 6, during celebration of Kings' Day, which commemorates the arrival of the 3 Wise Men. This is the day when children traditionally get presents, which are attributed to the Wise Men
