Extension to this-- what if every kid in the class had his/her own mailbox with last name and street address!? Pretend play AND learning to identify last name and address!

    It could be their daily note box, art, etc. you could set up a whole post office look to the area and have the kids put in their own mail. Soooo doing this in our Kindergarten room!

    My elementary school had a postal system. We were required to address our letters correctly (name, classroom, grade) and use a stamp (any sticker from our teacher had a box of old mailing labels that we would decorate for stamps.) It gave opportunities for leaning parts of a letter, how the postal system works, writing practice, even social skills. It's one of my all time favorite memories of elementary!

    Oh, I totally forgot about that!! My primary school did the same thing. We also regularly did pen-pal style things with kids from other schools and countries.
