As each of my children moves out, I like to make them a box for their tools. This tool box for measuring 8 by 19 inches and 13 inches high, utilizes a Kintaro Yazawa hawk's nail joint.

This is a clever way to add a locking mechanism to a Japanese-style toolbox. Clay Gossage was kind enough to send these photos of how he incorporated a wedge with a dovetail profile to lock the lids of boxes that he made in preparation moving his tools in place. Clay also mentioned that he could drive a screw through the wedge into the lid for added security.

For our 5 year anniversary, I made my wife this Japanese tool box. The 5 year is the "wood" anniversary, and my wife lived in Japan for a time, so I thought it would be a nice tribute. The box is made from white pine and meranti. The meranti ac.
