As a respite from his cares on the battlefield, George Washington planned out the delicate classical details of his Robert Adam-inspired "new" dining room at Mount Vernon, by far the house's grandest room--and one of America's most beautiful.
The large dining room at Mt. Vernon pools together many of the most fashionable elements from 18th Century decor, including the bright blue/green paint, which was exceedingly expensive at the time, the Palladian window, and beautiful plasterwork. This dining room was meant to be a showcase for entertaining that impressed, fit for a president, and it definitely served that purpose well. Mt. Vernon, VA
