Gary Hall Jr.'s Bravado Backfires (2000) The U.S. had never lost a 4x100 meter relay in international competition -- until the 2000 Olympics. Before the race, Gary Hall Jr. said the Americans would smash the Australian team like guitars in the 4x100 free relay, but to his dismay, Hall was out-touched by Australian anchor Ian Thorpe. After the race, the Australians mocked the Americans by playing air guitar during the post-race celebrations.

I watched Boris Becker play in the world Junior Boys Open in Birmingham for U18s when he was just 14. He boomed them all off the court and won Wimbledon just over two years later at 17. Old head on young shoulders and physically knew how to impose his game on opponents. Very tough mentally - underated.
