Military jacket Manufacturer: C. Webb Date: ca. 1862 Culture: British Medium: wool, silk, leather, metal Accession Number: 2009.300.2977a–c

From a fascinating exhibit at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, “Fashioning Fashion: European Dress in Detail 1700-1915.” These are the actual clothes worn at the time, not reproductions.

The dress coat worn by Lord Nelson at the battle of Trafalgar (10/21/1805). The bullet hole from the fatal wound can be seen on the shoulder of the coat.

The circa 1812 uniform belonged to Lieutenant William Hicks. It's an important find for military historians as it is believed no other lieutenant uniform of that era is left in existence.
