1953 New York, NY. Vivian Maier was a nanny who lived in Chicago for most of her life and passed away in 2009 at the age of 83. Little more is known about her, except that she was an avid street photographer. Her work was discovered at an auction in 2007, more than 100000 negatives and undeveloped rolls of film, sold by a storage facility who were cleaning out her locker for rent. Here is a sampling of Vivian Maier's stunning work from the Maloof Collection, spanning from the 1950s to the 1970s.

Vivian Maier's street photography is striking and previously unknown until a few years ago when thousands of rolls of film were discovered at a garage sale. #vivianmaier #rolleiflex #mediumformat

Untitled, November 4, 1955, San Francisco, CA by Vivian Maier. "The story of Vivian Maier, a nanny who has now wowed the world with her photography, and who incidentally recorded some of the most interesting marvels and peculiarities of Urban America in the second half of the twentieth century is seemingly beyond belief."
