The Cliffs of Noss Photo by Andrew Evans, National Geographic Traveler Towering up to 600 ft above the sea, the layered stone cliffs of Noss provide invaluable nesting habitat for seabirds like the northern gannet and guillemot, while puffin burrows abound at the top.

The photo was taken by me on my Canon Powershot during my first encounter with these adorable seabirds on the Isle of Lunga in the Scottish Hebrides. The puffins nest on the island, often raising their young in old rabbit burrows!

One of the most beautiful beaches on Earth. Its stretch of black basalt sand is one of the wettest places in Iceland. The cliffs west of the beach are home to many seabirds, most notably puffins which burrow into the shallow soils during the nesting season.
