DIY: How To Wash Your Washing Machine I know…It seems silly, right?! By washing clothes you’d think you are in turn washing your washer, but in truth, even the machine that gets the job done needs a nice washing and a little TLC. Think of how many cycles of washing it has done and all of the fabrics it has rinsed clean. It makes sense that it would need a good soaking session by itself every once in a while to get any residue or build-up washed away.

House smelling weird? Put two caps full of vanilla extract in a coffee cup, then place it in the oven at 300 degrees for one hour. Within twenty minutes the whole house smells like Heaven. It's actually a common realtor trick.

Who knew?? Use baking soda and vinegar to fix funky towels. Over time, and with many washes, your bath towels will build up detergent and fabric softener residue, leaving them both unable to absorb as much water and smelling kinda funky when they do. That strips the residue from them, and leaves...

You know that wonderful smell when you walk into Williams Sonoma? Here’s how to get it: water, sliced lemon, 3 springs of fresh rosemary and about a teaspoon of vanilla. Simmer on the stove....this smells amazing! I used 2 lemons, 3 sprigs of rosemary and about 2 tablespoons if vanilla. It only took 5 minutes to make the whole house smell fresh!

How to Remove Mildew Smell from Towels- Good to know.

Wash your towels in hot water with a cup of vinegar, and then run again in hot water with a half-cup of baking soda. That will strip your towels from all of that residue and mildew smell and will actually leave them feeling fluffy and smelling fresh. (Do not add laundry detergent to either wash. Just once with vinegar and once with baking soda.) good to know for the future. (definitely don't add soap -- remember lucy?)
