a student's individuality and originality is always to be encouraged. don't tell him to color the apple red - his/her apple might be striped neon. Imagination!

Be divergent in your brainstorming, ignoring your inner voice, which may be trying to tell you that some ideas are "ridiculous" or "impractical." In fact, they may be stepping stones to great ideas. Consider a wide range of possibilities before you begin to narrow your scope to a handful that can solve your challenge.

I am not a rule-breaker by most/any people's definition of the word. . . but this is totally true with SOME things! (like linguistic rules - I know, I'm a nerd)
