A fringed spread on the iron bedstead adds texture to this master bedroom's clean and spare circular sleeping porch--the perfect spot to enjoy sweeping views. (Photo: Photo: Pieter Estersohn; Designer: Amelia Handegan)

Of course, your fireplace doesn't have a raised hearth or go all the way up the wall like this one, but this is still a good look...paint bricks white and add a rustic, live-edge mantel.

In the living room Joanna redesigned the hearth and added modern concrete elements. The fireplace brick was repaired and painted white to make a clean and simple statement in the room. The light fixture (Shades of Light) over the coffee table added to the modern style of the home. On the back wall the client requested a work space and pantry area, so Joanna creatively added both of these elements near the back of the living space.

I have the mercury glass vase and balls. like the simple look~clean and clutter free. I love this entire woman's home. go to her home and take a tour.

Love this mantle decor - ours is so boring right now! Maybe need to switch out the picture for a nice big mirror. Especially love the contrast of this round mirror.

A mirror placed above fireplace is a great idea to add light & give the feel of a larger room. Placement of mirror is very important though. The tilt of mirror needs to be just right to get the right reflection.

The living room has a fireplace and I enjoy decorating the mantle to reflect the current season.
