Rosa Parks, Sometimes nicknamed the “First Lady of Civil Rights” and the “Mother of the Freedom Movement,” Parks stirred up commotion after refusing to sit in the back of the bus, as African Americans were ordered to do at that time. Although she was not the first to do so, her actions in Alabama sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which then led her to organize and collaborate with civil rights leaders, including Martin Luther King Jr.

Rosa Parks is a true hero, because one day after work, it was time for her to go home, and she was super tired, so on the bus, she sat down. Back in the day, if you were African American you were suppose to let the white people sit down if there weren't enough seats for them. Rosa parks sat down, and wouldn't get up when the bus driver told her to, so she got arrested. This is a very heroic story, because it takes courage to stand up for what is right, even when everyone doesn't agree with you.

Civil rights activist Rosa Parks was born on February 4, 1913, in Tuskegee, Alabama. Her refusal to surrender her seat to a white passenger on a Montgomery, Alabama bus spurred a city-wide boycott. The city had no choice but to lift the law requiring segregation on public buses. Rosa Parks received many accolades during her lifetime, including the NAACP's highest award and the Congressional Gold Metal. 2005, she died quietly at the age of 92.
