Not particularly a tourist destination, Johannesburg is known primarily as South Africa's largest metropolis.  Its former suburb Soweto – once home to Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu – made much news during the apartheid era; nowadays it is incorporated into the city. Mandela’s former home currently houses the Nelson Mandela National Museum.
