Tabletop Twitter! I LOVE this idea! Pick a passage from a book you are reading {read aloud, book club book, etc.} and glue it to the center of bulletin board paper and have the students "tweet" their thoughts about the passage. Then you can hang it up in the classroom.

After my students write a piece I have them leave it on their desks when they go to lunch or special area classes. I place a Skittle on each correct punctuation mark (and I usually put one or two one if they indent a paragraph). Let me tell you, Skittles are the great motivator!

This strategy helps build comprehension skills by having students listen to details in a story or poem and then draw what they hear. Having a classroom wide discussion about their drawings and the similarities will help students to think about the text and what their own imagination came up with.

Vocabulary on the move. Each student has a word around their head or maybe a sticky note on their back. They have to go around the room and ask others for clues as to what their word is (synonym, antonym, example, definition, etc. ) they then use their clues to figure out their word.
