Fairy Pools, Isle of Skye, Scotland. The Fairy Pools are a series of clear, cold pools and waterfalls formed as Allt Coir' a' Mhadaidh tumbles down from the foothills of the Black Cuillins into Glen Brittle. The water in the pools is bright turquoise due to mineral deposits in the rocks.

Fairy Pools, Isle of Skye, Scotland. Wasn't this where Gavin Maxwell lived ... when he wrote Ring of Bright Water, I'm sure he mentioned Skye as one of the places he traveled to frequently. Anybody?

The Fairy Pools of Glen Brittle, located on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. Series of cold plunge pools and gullies in the waterfalls colored bright turquoise. The pure, clear water has dug into the ground, showing off a variety of colored rock. The local mineral deposits are what gives the water and the rocks their vibrant blue colors.

Pamukkale Turkey by the Aegean Sea. The name Pamukkale literally means “cotton castle”. At the top of the hill, you can see the Turkish country side for miles and there is a bathing pool (it cost about $10 and is worth every penny!), the water is hot and fizzy like soda. But the best part is that the pool is located over the ruined temple of Apollo and you swim over tumbled-down marble pillars.

Morning glory pool is considered the most beautiful pool and a must-see of Yellowstone National Park. Its colors are because of the existence of heat-thriving bacteria making a stunning display of hues. The delicate blue water is created by thermophilic bacteria, which thrive in the pool’s searing heat.
