The Goddess of Liberty high atop the Texas State Capitol in Austin. Beginning in 1888, the original goddess watched over the state of Texas until being replaced with a replica in 1986. Holding the sword of justice in one hand and a gilded star in the other, she is likely modeled after the Greek goddess Pallas Athena. The goddess stands over 15 feet tall and is said to make the Texas Capitol taller than the U.S. Capitol.
