A History of the Martini: Part 4 The Russians tell us that pickle brine in vodka will cure a hangover or any of a number of other maladies. Uh huh. Regardless, at some point someone got the idea to add olive brine to a martini. FDR helped popularize the dirty martini when he met with Joseph Stalin and Winston Churchill and served them said drink. DIRTY MARTINI: Tanquerey Gin, Dolins Dry Vermouth, olive brine and a lemon twist. Photo and history lesson courtesy of Kenneth M. Davis

But since booze has changed in the last 40 years, we do modify the ingredients a bit. VESPER – Tanqueray Gin, Stolichnaya, Lillet Blanc, orange bitters, lemon twist. The Aviation - - A classic cocktail that had long been forgotten, this cocktail recipe was first published in Hugo Ensslin's book Recipe for Mixed Drinks in 1916. Unfortunatly the use of Creme Yvette had vanished along with the liqour until very recently, thanks to the Cooper Spirits Company. The original recipe only calls for a couple of dashes of Creme Yvette, but I like the flavor profile so I use a bit more.
