Doctors have replaced this tortoise's amputated leg with a caster wheel. Gamera, a 12-year-old African spur-thighed tortoise, was relinquished by its owner because it had a life threatening injury, which required vets to amputate. The caster, purchased at a local Ace Hardware store for about $7, was adhered to the tortoise's shell with some epoxy and the animal is reportedly doing quite well. It's already gained three pounds.
