Angela's Ashes - hands down one of my favorite books EVER. Of the more-than-one-thousand-maybe-thousands of books I have read in my lifetime, this is definitely in the Top Five. In fact, I still feel a pang when I see someone reading it, because I remember how awesome it was to swim around in it the first time. (And it rivals The Great Gatsby for the best last line of all time.)
To five-year-old Jack, Room is the world. It’s where he was born. It’s where he and Ma eat and sleep and play and learn. Room is home to Jack, but to Ma, it’s the prison where she’s been held since she was nineteen - for seven years. Told in the inventive, funny and poignant voice of Jack, Room is a celebration of resilience-and a powerful story of a mother and son whose love lets them survive the impossible.
